Why Do You Need Travel Vaccinations?

Some destinations carry health risks that simply don’t exist here in the UK. Diseases like typhoid, hepatitis A, and yellow fever are preventable, but only if you’re protected before you travel.

The NHS covers very few travel vaccines, which means most people are left to sort it themselves. That’s where a private travel clinic like ours comes in.

Getting vaccinated is not just about your own health. It protects the communities you visit too, particularly in regions where healthcare infrastructure is already stretched.

Our Travel Vaccination Clinic in Orrell Park, Liverpool

Orrell Park Pharmacy has been serving the local community for years. We’re a fully registered pharmacy with trained travel health pharmacists who carry out consultations and administer vaccines on-site.

You won’t be speaking to a call handler or filling in forms online hoping for the best. When you book with us, you sit down with a pharmacist who actually understands travel medicine.

We stock a wide range of travel vaccines, including Yellow Fever, and we’re authorised to issue the Yellow Fever vaccination certificate (the yellow card) that some countries legally require at the border.

How the Treatment Works

Book an Appointment

Use our online booking system or call the pharmacy directly. Same-day slots are often available, so don’t worry if you’ve left it late.

Attend Your Consultation

Your pharmacist will review your itinerary, medical history, and any medications you’re currently taking. We then put together a vaccine plan specific to your trip.

Receive Treatment

Most vaccines are administered on the same day as your consultation. We’ll also advise on malaria prevention, food and water safety, and anything else relevant to your destination.

Our Travel Vaccination Services

Travel Vaccines

We stock every major travel vaccine. Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, Rabies, Japanese Encephalitis, and more. All administered by trained professionals.

Destination Advice

Not sure what you need? Tell us where you’re going. We’ll check the latest health requirements and recommend the right protection for your trip.

Vaccination Schedule

Some vaccines need multiple doses over weeks. We’ll create a schedule that fits your departure date. Book all appointments in one go.

Express Service

Flying soon? We offer express consultations for last-minute travellers. Get essential vaccines fast. We’ll prioritise what matters most for your destination.

Documentation

You’ll receive a full vaccination certificate. This proves you’re protected and meets entry requirements for countries that need vaccination records.

What to Expect During Your Travel Vaccine Consultation

Your consultation will typically last 20 to 30 minutes. We’ll ask about your destination, how long you’re going for, the type of trip (backpacking, business, cruise), and any pre-existing health conditions.

We’ll then cross-reference that with the latest public health guidance from TRAVAX and the NaTHNaC Fitfortravel database. Nothing is guesswork.

By the end of the appointment, you’ll leave with a clear understanding of what vaccines you’ve had, when any follow-up doses are due, and what else you can do to stay safe while abroad.

Specialist Travel Vaccination at Our Liverpool Clinic

Some travel isn’t just about holidays. We cater for pilgrims and workers alike.

Hajj and Umrah Vaccinations

If you’re traveling to Saudi Arabia for Hajj or Umrah, the Meningitis ACWY vaccine is mandatory for your visa. We regularly vaccinate pilgrims and provide the correct certificate for the Saudi consulate.

Depending on your health, we may also suggest typhoid, hepatitis A, and flu vaccines due to the high infection risk in Mecca’s crowded environment.

Occupational Travel Vaccinations

If your job takes you abroad, your vaccine needs differ from typical travelers. Healthcare workers, construction teams, aid workers, and offshore contractors face higher exposure risks.

We offer occupational travel health assessments and vaccinations for hepatitis B, rabies, typhoid, and other work-related diseases. We also provide documentation for employer records. Call us to arrange group appointments.

How Early Should You Get Travel Vaccines?

Ideally, you should book your appointment at least 6 to 8 weeks before you travel. Some vaccines require two or three doses spread over several weeks, and your immune system needs time to respond properly.

That said, if you’re travelling sooner than that, don’t assume it’s too late. Some vaccines can be given closer to departure and still offer good protection. A course started is better than no course at all.

For last-minute travellers, we offer fast-track appointments. Call us and we’ll do what we can.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you find yourself uncertain about any details or have further enquiries, we encourage you to reach out to our team. We are committed to providing you with the necessary support and answers.

How long do travel vaccines last, and will I need boosters on future trips?

It depends on the vaccine. Hepatitis A can protect for up to 25 years after two doses. Typhoid needs repeating every three years. Yellow Fever is now considered valid for life for most travellers. We’ll check what you already have so you’re not paying for vaccines you don’t need.

Required vaccines are legally enforced at the border. Yellow Fever is the main example. Recommended vaccines aren’t compulsory, but they protect you from real risks at your destination. Skipping them is a gamble, not a saving.

Some vaccines are safe during pregnancy, others aren’t. Live vaccines like Yellow Fever are generally avoided unless the risk of the disease is high. We’ll assess your situation carefully and only advise what’s appropriate for you and your baby.

Yes, but it needs careful planning. Live vaccines may not be suitable, and your immune response can be lower than normal. Book an appointment and bring a list of your medications so we can tailor advice accordingly.

Most can be given together without any problem. Some combinations require a gap between doses. We plan the schedule around what’s clinically appropriate, not just what’s convenient, so you’re properly protected without unnecessary delay.

Bring your vaccination record and we can continue the course from where you left off. You don’t need to start again. Most interrupted courses can be completed without losing the protection you’ve already built up.

Potentially, yes. If you contract a vaccine-preventable illness and your insurer finds you didn’t take reasonable precautions, they may refuse to pay out. It’s worth checking your policy, but getting vaccinated is usually the safer choice on both counts.

Yes. Just let us know before the appointment. Our pharmacists are used to anxious patients and will take things at your pace. Most vaccines are quick, and we can talk you through exactly what to expect beforehand.

Mild reactions like a sore arm or low-grade temperature are common and usually pass within a day or two. For anything more serious, seek medical attention promptly. We advise all patients to wait briefly after vaccination and give you clear aftercare guidance before you go.

Risk doesn’t disappear just because you’re in a resort. Hepatitis A, for example, spreads through contaminated food and water, which can affect any traveller regardless of accommodation type. Your itinerary matters, but your destination’s risk profile matters more.
